Implementing "unique and compelling" Internet projects presents new challenges that are not typically encountered when using traditional resources. Often these challenges stem from the need to use new technologies in a somewhat technology-poor environment. This necessity can drive the need to change classroom management and instructional strategies. It can also require teachers to deal with new issues such as electronic collaboration and strict project deadlines.

Most Internet-based projects do not supply teachers with information on how to effectively address the new challenges that come with using the Internet. Therefore, it is necessary for teachers to create their own project management plan to help them effectively deal with the issues specific to their students, classroom, and school.

To help develop a comprehensive Internet project management plan it is useful to break the plan up into four major components (Overview Diagram) as shown above. Teachers should address all areas when developing their own project management plan. Guidelines for developing each specific management area are provided in the links above.
