Cohort 4 General Information

We are pleased to welcome the institutions below to the Pathways Project, the U.S. Department of Education-sponsored PT3 program (Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to Use Technology). PT3 programs aim to improve the teaching and learning of preservice teachers and, ultimately, K-12 students, by providing training, curricular materials, and other types of support through the effective use of technology in instruction.

Eighteen colleges have been chosen to participate in the fall 2006 Pathways cohort. Each of the 18 institutions selected articulated a strong understanding of Pathways goals, including an institutional focus on preservice teacher education, modeling effective pedagogy for preservice teachers, and supporting faculty in the effective use of technology in their own teaching. Faculty teams from Pathways Project institutions will participate in the Savvy Cyber Professor professional development program. This online and face-to-face faculty development program will provide 26 hours of training to faculty who teach mathematics, science, language arts, or educational technology to preservice teachers.

The first session of Savvy Cyber Professor, a full-day, hands-on, lab-based, face-to-face workshop, will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2006, preceding the League’s Conference on Information Technology in Charlotte, NC. The next five training sessions will be asynchronous, online sessions that will take approximately three hours each to complete. These five online sessions will be followed by a three-hour, face-to-face working session on your campus involving your institution’s four team members, followed by a separate, one-hour showcase event in which participating faculty share the results of their work with team members, administrators, and others. There will be three sections of the Savvy Cyber Professor course running concurrently, section 401, section 402 and section 403. Participants from the same institution will be assigned to the same section.

Session 1 of Savvy Cyber Professor will take place preceding the CIT conference in Charlotte, NC. This is a hands-on session in a computer lab.

Who:	All four designated participants from each Pathways Project community college must attend. The designated college liaison for the Pathways project is also welcome to attend.

CIT Conference Registration:	It is not necessary to register for the CIT conference in order to attend this training session, although it is certainly encouraged! One complimentary CIT registration will be provided to a Pathways Project participant from each institution (contact Rosemary Cully for more information.) Please note: Workshop participants not registered for the conference will not be able to participate in conference-related activities. Meals and Refreshments:	A continental breakfast will be available starting at 7:30 a.m. Lunch and snacks throughout the day will also be provided.
