Real Time Data Workshop

Purpose 

Today's workshop will serve as an introduction to various unique and compelling Internet resources, particularly in the areas of science and mathematics. Participants will learn how to access, collect, record and analyze Real Time Data.  Workshop participants will also learn how to integrate Real Time Data resources into the classroom.

Musical Plates
Musical Plates offers students the opportunity to access real time earthquake data, interact with experts online, and publish their own work to the project web site. 

The Stowaway Adventure
Students will use real time data to track a real ship at sea, determine the destination and predict when it will arrive in port.  In addition, students will have the opportunity to monitor weather conditions at sea and predict if rough weather may impact the arrival time of a ship. 

Wonderful World of Weather
This standards-based Real Time Data Module has been created for use by students in the elementary grades to allow them to investigate weather phenomenon both locally as well as in other places around the world.

Air Pollution: What's the Solution 
Students use data and animated maps from the internet as they monitor for the presence of ground level ozone.  They will discover what ground level ozone is, what factors contribute to its formation, and the health effects from breathing ozone
