Real Time Data Workshop

Purpose 

Today's workshop will serve as an introduction to various unique and compelling Internet resources, particularly in the areas of science and mathematics. Participants will learn how to access Real Time Data, collect, record and analyze the data.  Workshop participants will also learn how to integrate Real Time Data resources into the classroom.

Examples of CIESE Real Time Data Projects

  • Musical Plates
    Musical Plates offers students the opportunity to access real time earthquake data, interact with experts online, and publish their own work to the project web site. 

  • The Stowaway Adventure
    Students will use real time data to track a real ship at sea, determine the destination and predict when it will arrive in port.  In addition, students will have the opportunity to monitor weather conditions at sea and predict if rough weather may impact the arrival time of a ship. 

  • The Gulf Stream Voyage
    In this interdisciplinary project, students will investigate the driving forces behind this great ocean current, how it affects the Atlantic Ocean and some of mankind's experiences dealing with the Gulf Stream current.
