Greetings from the Academy of St. Elizabeth, an all girls, Catholic college preparatory school located in Convent Station, New Jersey. We are at 40.779 degreees north latitude and 74.443 degrees west longitude, with an elevation of 116.4 meters. The Academy, 140 years old, is a result of the endeavors of the Sisters of Charoty, a religious order founded by Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton; Mother Xavier, a Sister of Charity, founded the Academy in 1860 at the request of Bishop James Bayley. The Academy is located in historic Morris County near Morristown, where George Washington and his Continental Army stayed during the winter of 1777 to 1778.

Our student population is 250 students in grades nine through twelve. Religious values play an integral part in the education received at the Academy. Students are taught to be courteous, well-rounded individuals. The clubs at the Academy help students to develop their interests as well as explore them further. Some clubs include the following: service club, newspaper, literary magazine, language clubs, and environmental club. We also have many sports teams such as tennis, basketball, swimming, field hockey, softball, cross country, lacrosse, and winter skiing.

Our Honors Chemistry class is excited to be taking part in this water sampling experiment. We will be testing water from Bee Meadow Pond in Whippany, New Jersey. This pond is located in a residential area inhabited by geese and ducks only. We look forward to comparing the results of our experiments with those of other areas throughout the world. We feel this will be a great learning experience both socially and scholastically.

Sincerely,

The Academy Girls
