Preston High School 400 Preston Drive Kingwood, WV
26537
Greetings from West Virginia!
Preston High School holds about 1600 students (grades 9-12) in its winding corridors who are studying most anything from advanced calculus to nursing to animal processing. The campus is spread over a rural setting of shaded fields for animal grazing and multiple buildings for student instruction. Classes are run on a block schedule at present with four classes one semester (each an hour and a half long!) and four different classes the next.
The school colors are black and silver, while the mascot is a knight. We Preston Knights have a large outdoor track, a separate football field, and two gyms for our AAA sports teams. Teams available for student participation include basketball, football, soccer, tennis, swimming, volleyball, and many others.
Preston County (specifically Kingwood, WV) and Preston High School are located in the northeastern part of the state directly between our visible panhandles. The high school is located about 30 minutes from the state border to the east and 35 minutes from the city of Morgantown, WV in the west. The surrounding area is made up mainly of small towns, wooded areas, and private farmlands. There are numerous streams and rivers that cut thorough the county; perhaps the most notable is the Cheat River, a river containing occasional Class V rapids and frequently numerous tourists.
Preston County is most famous for being the home of the "Buckwheat Festival", a multiple day festival in autumn. The festival draws visitors from all parts of the state to marvel at parades, beauty pageants, livestock judging, a carnival of rides, and a craft bonanza.
The river being monitored is the Lower Youghiogheny flowing through Oakland, MD, at 39:24:50N, 79:24:28W.
Enjoy your time outdoors,
