PS/MS20 is a K-8 school located in the Bronx with a population of 14oo students. PS/MS20 opened its doors in 1996. Its official name is the George Werdann Professional Development School. PS20 is deeply involved in the community that it serves. As a tribute to the community, PS20 is named after a slain Police Officer from the Norwood Community.

Norwood is a community in the Northeastern section of the Bronx. It is an ethnically diverse community. The schools in Norwood are dedicated to raising a community of children who respect their environment, each other's differences and respect themselves. All Norwood students work towards the same goal of reading 25 books per year, celebrating their literacy in fairs throughout their community.

As part of our Chase Active Learning Program, seventh graders from MS20 have been traveling to Bronx River on a weekly basis and have been conducting site experiments. Our students are very motivated by this activity because it has brought their classroom learning to a real life setting.

PS/MS20 continues to strive for excellence through hands on projects like the Global Water Sampling Project. As a new school in the community, PS/ MS20 is setting the standard in progressive education in an urban setting.

It is a very exciting time to be a seventh grader in a progressive school that uses their environment as their classroom.
