Dear Mrs McKay

We are students and teachers from Mathematical High school "Konstantin Velichkov" in Pazardjik, Bulgaria, Europe. We got informed by Mrs Jenny Sendova about The Global Water Sampling Project. The underwritten enclosure is our letter of introduction. We would highly appreciate if you E-mail us on the following e-mail address: mgschoolpz@mbox.digsys.bg

Yours faithfully

students and teachers from the Mathematical High school "Konstantin Velichkov"

SUBJECT: How to use the method of COMPLEX APPROACH for testing the Maritsa river waters (nearby Pazardjik)

GOAL: The role and the options of the COMPLEX APPROACH as an effective means for forming students' ecological culture.

AIMS (TASKS):

1.. Evaluating the assimilating capacity of the local river Maritsa;

2.. Determine the admissible maximum of the pollution;

3.. Examine different practical ways to limit the existing level of pollution.

STAGES:

1.. Preparatory level - defining the testing target, the tools, the meteorological sources, drawing up maps;

2.. Action level - water samples, lab tests;

3.. Final level - specifying the water qualities, setting new directions, reaching productive conclusions.

ACTIVITIES:

1.. spotting samples - air and water hydrometric measuring, defining the water colour and transparency, landscape specialities ("Land Studies" class students);

2.. lab (chemical) test ("Chemistry" class students);

3.. collecting flora and fauna organisms, identification, enumerating the bioindicators etc... ("Biology" class students).

EXPECTED RESULTS:

1.. Enlarging the students' motivation for the school-research tests;

2.. Forming ecological behavior and knowledge;

3.. Encouraging students' discussions, findings, solving nature-protection problems.
