HALLO WATER SAMPLERS!!!!! We are a 12 grade class in Pergine, Italy. Pergine is a little and pretty town (15000 inhabitants) near Trento in the north of Italy, at 482 metres above sea level. On a hill there is a famous medieval castle, and a misterious and unhappy legend is narrated about it. It regards the "Dama Bianca", a charming woman 's ghost that you could hear crying in full moon nights. This castle is now a hotel, and it is famous for its art exhibitions. Close to Pergine there are two lakes, so during the summer and winter there is a lot of tourists. They can find different kinds of accomodations like hotels and camping sites. There are also sporting faciliies, like skiiing and ice-skating (we have the world champion of speed ice-skating, Roberto Sighel). Pergine is also close to Dolomites. In Pergine there are a few industries and its economy is based on tourism and agricolture, expecially apples and berries. Our school is called Marie Curie and it is situated in the centre of the town. In the past it used to be a psychiatric hospital, so perhaps the students are a bit mad. The lessons always start at 8 o'clock in the morning and finish at 13.10. It is the only secondary school specializing in scientific subjects of the area; there are about 500 students. We go to school from Monday to Saturday and in our class we are all 18 years old. We study English, Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, History, Latin, Philosophy, Maths, Italian, Art, P.E.. We would like to join the water project as we started sampling the water of stream Fersina wich is an affluent of the river Adige, the second longest river in Italy, and it is about 30 km long. Its source is in a mountain lake at about 2005 metres a.s.l.. It flows along a narrow not densely populated valley. This stream was a problem for Pergine and Trento because its floods were very dangerous, but now its banks are higher and safer.
