Dear Participants,
Our School is in Three Bridges, New Jersey. It is in Readington Township, Hunterdon County. This area was mostly farms until about 15 years ago. Now it is mostly houses. There are a few farms left.
Our school is red brick, has two floors, and it was built in 1950. Our mascot is a troll. Our school is pretty cool !
We have 503 students and 42 teachers and aids, and it is a Kindergarten throught fourth grade school.
We are fourth grade students in Miss Trimmer's Class. In our classroom we have a river tank for some of the animals from the river. So far we have 3 kinds of small fish, 5 crayfish, and some salamanders. We also have two other fish tanks.
We walk about one half mile to get to our study site on the South Branch of the Raritan River. This fall we monitored the water quality with some tests from the "Pondwater Tour" kit and others and we sampled the benthic macroinvertebrates. We found lots of caddis flies and stoneflies. The rate of flow was measured with out little plastic ducks and turtles. With help we measured the water depth every two feet to make a river bottom profile. We also surveyed the trees growing along the river and collected seeds from other plants. We will visit the river two more times - once in February and again in May or June. ( All the fourth grade students in our school district study the river as part of the science curriculum.)
We have enjoyed reading some of the letters.
