James J. Davis Elementary School: Dale, South Carolina, USA

My name is Joe Embrey and I am an Intermediate Multiage Teacher (4th/5th). My class of 23 students will be the young scientists involved from James J. Davis Elementary School. We are a rural school of about 450 students, k-5, located on the Sea Islands of Beaufort County, South Carolina. We have recently completed a study of wetlands, as we are surrounded by them and are very interested in the rivers that empty into them. The students study the Atlantic Ocean often, as we live on it, but seldom look at the waters behind us, the rivers. There are many factories on the Savannah River, with many rumors about the cleanliness. We are anxious to find out the details for ourselves.
