Freedom Intermediate School: Franklin, Tennessee, USA

Hello from Tennessee!

We are students in Franklin, Tennessee at 35.5 degrees N and 86.5 degrees W. Our town is about 20 miles south of Nashville, Tennessee, the home of country music. We have many music stars who live in the area and many artists come here to record songs.

Franklin is a historic town with many homes and buildings over 200 years old. Many of the homes have been restored to their original condition. There are also many large trees and beautiful streams. We have deer, rabbits, coyotes, and many birds. There are many lakes in the area for boating and swimming. Many students participate in football, soccer, and baseball leagues. Some students take dance and gymnastics lessons.

Our school has 850 students and 65 teachers. We have programs for academically talented students as well as classes for students who need to move at a slower pace. We have an ecology club for students who want to help the community and are interested in learning about the environment. We also have a drama club and an honors chorus for students whose interests are in those areas. Sixth grade students may participate in band.

We are in an area of Tennessee where much growth and building of businesses and homes is taking place.We are experiencing a sort of population explosion because of all the new people who are moving in to the area. They are moving from all areas of the world. They are building homes on much of the open land because they want live near their jobs and have good schools for their children. This could be a potential problem for the environment in our area.

We are looking forward to participating in this project. We like to be outside studying the natural world first hand.
