Tooker Avenue School: West Babylon, New York, USA

Hi there! We are a class of 5th graders from Tooker Avenue School in West Babylon, New York. We are located on the South Shore of Long Island on the Great South Bay. We are a hamlet of about 12,000 in the Town of Babylon.

We have 5 elementary schools, one Junior High School and one High School. At our school, we have 3 5th grades with approximately 75 students.

Our comunity is very active in sports; softball, football, soccer, lacrosse, etc. Many of us also like rollerblading and bike riding.

We have an afterschool computer club and have just started a program called Voyager which meets afterschool for enrichment programs.

Each classroom in our school has 3 Dell Computers, a printer, Internet access for each student and a television monitor with access to 4 vcr's,2 laser disk players, a cd-i player and a still floppy player which we can operate from our computer. We feel very lucky to have this technology.

The students work with all the technology and even leave homework messages on the voicemail each night.

We have a little lake called Beaver Lake next to our school. It is a protected water area and has recently been cleaned. Egrets, Cranes and other wildlife have been showing up there now that the pollution has been removed from the land area.

We are looking forward to working there and studying the water and finding ways to protect the area ourselves as we are the future community members who will live here and raise our own families.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Squicciarini and 26 wonderful students
