Morristown High School: Morristown, New Jersey, USA

Dear Participants,

The Environmental and Biology classes at Morristown High School are very excited about the Global Water Sampling Project. These courses are comprised primarily of 9th and 10th graders, but our school includes grades 9,10,11, and 12, ages 14-18. Our school is large, consisting of 4 floors and is very well equipped with modern science labs, computer labs, art rooms, 2 gymnasiums, a state of the art library, and even an indoor swimming pool and radio station with satellite dish. The student body, which numbers about 1200, is very culturally diverse. About 60% of us ride a bus to school since we live as much as 5 miles away.

Our school day runs from 7:40 to 2:35 and we attend school from September until June. There are many extracurricular activities available to us such as soccer, baseball, football, field hockey, tennis, swimming, and cheerleading as well as clubs such as Drama and Environmental to name a few. We also have a terrific Marching Band.

Morristown is located in the northern half of the state of New Jersey, and New Jersey is in the northeastern part of the United States. The Morristown area is a great place to live. It has an extensive central shopping area, indoor mall, 10 theater complex with high rise office building and a village green where many outdoor community activities take place. Just a few minutes outside of town are the rolling hills of our suburbs where homes and a few farms are located. Our town is considered very historic since it served as headquarters during the Revolutnionary War.

We have 3 ponds of interest to us in town for this study. Some of our testing will be done on site, but most will be conducted in our labs at school. It is autum now in our part of the country with moderate temperatures, so it's a great time to do this field work. We are looking forward to sharing and comparing our results with you.

Sincerely,
The Students of Morristown High School
Teachers: Mary Luberto, Gemma Potts, and Paris Pallis
