Students anywhere and any age are welcome to participate in this project! It is recommended for middle school or high school students but younger students may be able to participate on a more limited basis. Try to provide data for as many of the tests as possible but if you can only conduct a few tests, that is fine too.

Officially, the project will start on October 6, 1997 and run through November 14, 1997. If your class chooses to join the project during its official run, you'll be able to communicate directly with the other schools and individuals participating in the project. You'll be able to discuss via email your class theories and discuss the results once they are available. Your class work will also then become part of the official results page, if you so choose. The project results as well as the background information will be available on the page to anyone (regardless of whether your class is registered) at any time.

There's no fee to join.

The schedule for the project is as follows:

Sept. 2-30, 1997 Project is open for registration. See registration information below.
Prior to Oct. 6 Introduce project to students. Begin any pre-project activities (i.e. are students familiar with using a computer?)
Week of Oct. 6 Project begins! Students compose introductory email messages and send to partner schools. Web site is updated to show participating schools.
Week of Oct. 13

Week of Oct. 20

Water sampling tests conducted by partner schools. Results due by Friday, October 24, 1997.
Week of Oct. 27 Results posted to web site. Students to start follow-up analysis based on compiled results.
Week of Nov. 3 Follow-up analysis, questions, and comments by students based on compiled results.
Week of Nov. 10 Final student work posted to web site. Project concludes on November 14, 1997.

If you're interested in joining the official Global Water Sampling Project please register by Sept. 30, 1997 by sending an email to Connie Rogers at cbrogers@injersey.com. Please include your name, school name, school address, school phone number, your email address, and grade level of students.
