Fairwood Elementary, 5th Grade, Berea, Ohio, USA

Our school's name is Fairwood Elementary. We are located in Berea, Ohio. We are 5th graders. Here is our results from this project.

During this project we collected data for 5 days. Then we collected data from other schools all around the world. Finally, we made some line graphs showing the data and answered questions using the graphs. We found the temperature in Fahrenheit and then converted it into Celsius. We then added the number of minutes in a week then divided it by 5 to find the average minutes of sunlight for a week for our city.

We found out that some areas of the earth receive more sunlight than others because some areas are closer to the equator where the sun shines longer. Also, some areas get more heat because they are near the equator, and the sun hits directly on the equator. To interpret our results, we made two line graphs. Then we read the graphs and answered questions about it.

In this project, we learned the closer to the equator the warmer it is. Latitude does effect temperature and minutes of daylight. We also learned how to turn Fahrenheit into Celsius. Something else we learned is about the locations of certain places. Two things that we would do differently is we would make a smaller graph and we would try to get more schools from the southern hemisphere.
