We are five sixth grade students at the James F. Doughty School in Bangor, ME, which has grades 6-8. The school has many activities including soccer, swimming, field hockey, track, football, basketball, and baseball. Our school is at 44.4750 degrees north Latitude and 068.4706 degrees west Longitude. An interesting fact is that Stephen King lives in Bangor, our home town. All five of us know his sister-in-law personally. She was our art teacher last year. Another interesting fact is that our city’s airport runway is so long that it’s an alternate landing site for spacecraft.
Our state is very interesting. Maine’s nickname is the Pine Tree state or Vacationland. The state bird is the chickadee and our flower is the pine cone and tassel. We are major producers in blueberries and potatoes, toothpicks, lobster and maple syrup. Our temperatures for September of this year were a maximum of 89°F and a minimum of 32°F. We are the only state bordered by only one other state, New Hampshire. Other places we are bordered by are New Brunswick and Quebec, two Canadian provinces, and a coastline which stretches to 3,478 miles.
