Proximity to the equator affects the temperature because places closer to the equator get more direct sunlight. The sunlight carries heat. The more direct sunlight, the hotter it gets. For example, Honduras is just south of the equator, and when the earth spins the tilt where Honduras is causes the equator to be more south. The north gets more direct sunlight. Therefore, Honduras would get less direct sunlight.
