New Years in Hilo, Hawaii

New Years is celebrated Dec.31-Jan.1. The weather is usally clear. Sometimes it drizzles. It is usally hot. We never had a cold New Years.

We have many traditions. One is pounding mochi.Mochi is made out of rice. You can also put cooked beans inside. Only a few people like mochi. I don't like it. We also play with fire crackers. Playing with fire crackers is fun. At 12:00 we have a big celebration.

There is no special music. We listen to our favorite songs or the radio.

There is no special food. We usally eat our favorite food. My favorite food is fried chicken. Our family has different favorites. Our family has a combnation of food. We had lobster. lobster isa animal that lives in the ocean. Lobster is sort of like crab. We also have steak. I think everyone knows what steak is.

People wear all kinds of clothes. Children usally wear pants and a shirt. So their clothes don't get dirty. Some aduilts wear fancy clothes. Adults also wear casual clothes. casual clothes is everyday kind of clothes. Some Ladies wear muumuus. Muumuus are a hawaiian type of dress.
