Letter Of Introduction

Greetings from the fifth grade at Montclair Kimberley Academy in Montclair, New Jersey. Our town is located at 74 degrees, 13 minutes West longitude and 40 degrees, 49 minutes north latitude. Our class has been collecting day length data since September as part of our forest ecology unit.

The reason for our interest is that we were comparing the northeastern deciduous forest around here with the Amazonian rain forests of Ecuador. Day length is an important difference. We think it will be neat to share this data (Sun Times Project) and to get a clearer picture of temperature and day length all over the world.

Our school in an independent day school in the same town as Mount Hebron. Montclair is about 17 miles due west of New York City. Montclair, originally “Cranetown” and then “Speertown”, was settled by Duth farmers and business people in the late 1600s. It was home to Buzz Aldrin, the NASA astronaut, the site of the story “Cheaper By The Dozen” and it is currently home to about 37,000 people. There’s lots going on here in terms of the arts, education, sports and more. To learn more about our school you can check out our website at www.montclairkimberley.org.

Our Science teacher is Mrs. Pi-Sunyer and we’ll be doing the whole Sun Times project in Science, Math and Language Arts. You can contact us through e-mail to Mrs. Pi-Sunyer at npi-sunyer@mka.pvt.k-12.nj.us.
