Hello Project participants- We are from Cottonwood Elementary School in Cottonwood Az. We are in the center of the state of Arizona. Our town in small- our school has 650 students. We are on the Verde River- a riparian river- and we are surrounded by mountains and the Mongollon Rim (mug-e-own). You have to climb out of the valley to go to Sedona, Prescott, Flagstaff or even Phoenix.
During the summer it can be 115 here but in the winter we often get a little snow and it drops to 30 degrees. We get hail during summer rains. This year we got lots of rain so we know there will be a lot of snakes and other things in the spring because of growth.
Our town was started in 1870 by the Willard family and others who were ranching and growing food for the miners in Jerome which is up on Mingus Mt. We have lots of Indian ruins in the area and two reservations outside of town.
We are in ALP- Advanced Learner Program so we only meet once a week. It has been a little hard to do as much with the project as we wanted, but we are enjoying it. We have marked many of the cities and countries on a map. There are ten of us in class.
Good bye!
