We are a class of 5th graders near Wasco, California. If you want to know more about Wasco look at www.wascocity.com Our school is called Semitropic School. We are the Wildcats. Our football teams, both 5-6 and 7-8 are undefeated. We have 250 students at our school.
Wasco is primarily an agricultural community. We grow cotton, roses, potatoes, hay and other various crops. If you have a rose bush in your yard chances are it was grown in Wasco. Bear Creek Production is the largest rose grower around. It bought out both Jackson and Perkins and Armstrong rose growers several years ago. Wasco calls itself the Rose Capital of the United States (and maybe the world).
Our school recently celebrated its centenial. There were many activities. Wasco has an annual rose festival in September (see the web site cited above). There are parades, races, tractor pulls and of course rose contests. Many visitors look forward to touring the rose fields by school bus during the festival. You can see a picture of the fields at the Wasco City web site. We look forward to taking part in this project. We are located at 36 degrees latitude north and 119 degrees longitude east.
