Fontana Elementary School, Fontana, Wisconsin
Fontana Elementary School is located on the west end of Lake Geneva. We have many trees and hills in our very rural neighborhood. Wisconsin has four seasons. We have many varieties of hard wood trees and pines. In the spring our gardens are blooming with tulips, daffodils and many varieties of bulb flowers. We have a variety of bushes, some stay green through the winter and others have needles.
We have compared our school surroundings to South Side Elementary School in Sarasota Florida. The difference is our heat is no where near as hot as Florida. Wisconsin can enjoy ice cream in the month of July unlike Florida when it melts too quickly. Wisconsin schools also have snow days when the buses cannot make it to school. Wisconsin celebrates four distinct seasons. Similarities, both states have green grass and black dirt. We both have weeds, but they may be different varieties. We both found plastic bottles (garbage) and hope that both picked it up. We both have living worms and red ants, but not fire ants in Wisconsin and both have spiders.
In conclusion, Florida has more tropical plants and animals, where Wisconsin has very severe winters that keep us from having lizards and palm trees. Most of Wisconsin’s animals hibernate for the winter, so many of them prepare themselves by collecting seeds and food for survival. Many of our homes have screens on the windows and doors so the insects do not fly in the homes.
