We found lots of small bugs. We saw a milipede, a roly poly, ants, a leafbug, a centipede, a caterpillar and some kind of insect eggs. We saw a spider in its web. During the time we observed our square we saw a chipmunk and many robins. The robins were all over the place. We even saw them taking a bath in the creek near our square. We believe that the robins have a nesting area near our school. We see lots of them in the morning near our creek and in the afternoon in the grass. A bird expert has told us that we probably have a roosting area.

In one of our squares, we had a dead locust tree. Growing on the tree we saw a lot of mushrooms. One of them was huge. It almost looked like a shelf that was attached to the tree. The live tree that we observed was a river birch. It had 3 trunks and the bark looked like orange-white paper. When we touched the bark it gave off orange powdery dust. We got it all over our hands. We saw wild onions, and some weeds with pretty purple flowers. One of our squares had morning glories growing in it. We also had some wild ivy growing in our square. The ivy was dark green with white veins. It grew close to the ground.

One of our trees had a piece of orange plastic stapled to it. We think it must have been some kind of marker for something. We also found a nail on the ground. We found several cobwebs, which looked like a tangled mass of thread. We found a cicada shell and lots of dead leaves. We saw lots of dirt, wood chips, and mud. We have had tons of rain in the past month, including a major flood (school was closed for a day because roads were washed out). So, we saw lots of mud.
