We had five squares. We discovered a lizard crawling on the fence that bordered one of our squares. On three of our squares we observed ants. Four groups were excited to find a butterfly flying over their square!

We identified the the maple tree by collecting a sample of fallen leaves. Then we looked in a book of North American trees to find a match! We also found two mushrooms. The weeds we found were dandelion, clover, and centaury (based on our research in an herbal book. We didn't know that weeds were classified as herbs!! We also found the fruit of a magnolia tree. The magnolia tree is very fragrant and is very popular in the south. We have one on our kindergarten playground.

It had just rained the entire day before our field work, so we found mud and wet sand. We found quartz rocks! Sadly, we discovered a broken pencil and some bits of plastic wrapper! We also noted a very interesting anthill, but we didn't touch it!
