Dear Mr. President,

It has occurred to me that you are planning to stop your funding towards earthquake research. I do not think this would be a good idea. I am going to present significant information to you about earthquakes and give you reasons to why you should continue funding earthquake research.

An earthquake usually occurs for one reason only. When the tectonic plates under the earths surface fault, or break, the earth’s plates move. This movement is known as an earthquake. Some earthquakes can range from being a huge disaster to being a tiny one that no one even knows about. These earthquakes are measured on a Richter scale. Lately, most earthquakes have been small, but there are sometimes larger ones. Either way, it is important that we study these earthquakes so that we learn more about these natural occurrences.

Next, you are probably wondering where most of these earthquakes occur. The answer to that question is everywhere. The entire earth is composed of these tectonic plates, therefore, at one point or another they tend to move or break. There are certain parts of the world where earthquakes tend to occur more than other parts. One of these parts is known as the pacific plate. It is also known as the Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire is located around the Pacific Ocean. California is the only part of America located in the Ring of Fire. In a few million years California will no longer be located on the North American continent.

Earthquakes can range in different magnitudes. Some Earthquakes are average and measure from 4-6 on the Richter scale. There sometimes tend to be earthquakes much larger, which usually result in disaster. These earthquakes are measured at about 7 or higher on the Richter scale. There have only been a few earthquakes that have measured from 7 or higher lately. Either way, it is important we study these earthquakes so that we can learn more about them.

In conclusion, most earthquakes are small, but sometimes there tend to be some larger, which can result in devastation. It is crucial that we learn and research more about these earthquakes so that we can be prepared when they occur. I hope this information has persuaded you to continue funding earthquake research. It is important that we know about these natural disasters so that we can prevent destruction, injury, or death when they occur. Hopefully you will continue funding this earthquake research.

Sincerely,

Ryan
