Dear Mr. President,

I am the lead scientist in the US geological Survey and I have a job to analyze and follow earthquakes. My team has researched some important data you may find useful about earthquakes.

First of all, plate movements and continental drift cause earthquakes. There is tension, shearing and compression on the earth. The plates are constantly sliding, pushing and pulling apart.

Some parts of the world tend to have more earthquakes than others. They include places such as Hawaii, Alaska and the Ring of Fire. Hawaii has very active volcanoes. Alaska and the Ring of Fire have many earthquakes.

Also, with all the earthquakes, there is a trend in depth and magnitude. The deeper earthquakes are occurring near New Zealand. The magnitude of earthquakes is mostly near 4-5 on the Richter scale. Higher and lower magnitudes are less common.

I hope that you keep funding our research and thank you in advance for doing so. I think that it is most essential that you keep funding our research. One reason is that we may lose our lives without knowing where the earthquakes will hit. If we do not track the earthquakes we may lose more money than if you did fund us to research. That is a very dangerous move. Property and land will be destroyed. We need to keep track of earthquakes for the sake of our lives. We need you to keep funding us in our research.

Thank You,

Nikki
