Introduction forStudents:  Be a Screen Writer

A screenplay is a written work by a screenwriter for a film or television program.   A screenplay is often an adaptation from an existing piece of writing. For example, J.K. Rowling wrote the books, but a screen writer, Steve Kloves, adapted all but one of the Harry Potter novels for film.

Your assignment is to  report on a book by describing how you would turn that book into a motion picture. As you read the novel on which you are about to report, did you visualize the characters and setting?  Did you notice what techniques the author used to bring the story to life?  A major studio may be interested in making a movie based on your book. You will be using your imagination to compose a proposal for that movie. You will have total creative control in planning how to transform the written word into action.
