Letter of Introduction for Shenandoah Middle School

Saludos a todos! That means hello to everyone. We attend Shenandoah Middle School in Miami Florida's Little Havana. Our school is located at 28.8 N and 80.3 W. Our school turned 60 years old this year and has over 1,500 students attending.

We have educational clubs such as the reading club, the geography club, and the National Junior Honor Society, just to mention a few. Our National Junior Honor Society volunteers their time to help the elders of our community, and the Chiefs In Action (CIA), an environmental club, helps to keep our community clean. Our school takes great pride in community involvement.

For fun, we have cheerleading, boys and girls basketball, track & field, and many others. This year our cross country team placed second at the county finals.

This year our community has been all caught up in the Elian Gonzalez contraversy. Elian is the six year old little boy who while coming from Cuba, lost his mother on the journey. He has been living with his relatives here in Little Havana, about a mile from our school, since Thanksgiving Day (November 25th). So as you can imagine, our community has been very unsettled the past couple of weeks.

When we're not protesting outside of Elian's home, we can be found enjoying our mild temperatures and beautiful beaches just minutes away from us. Our beaches are visited year round by tourists from all over the world, so maybe we'll see you some time!

We hope you enjoyed finding out a little bit about our part of the world.

Sincerely,

Shenandoah Middle School, Miami, Florida, U.S.A
