Cooper Middle School Buffalo Grove, IL, USA

Cooper Middle School is located about 30 miles northwest of Chicago in Buffalo Grove, . Our school has a little over 600 students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Each grade is divided into teams. Our team's name is "Infinity" and has 94 student members. Our school mascot is the Cooper Cobra and o9ne of our two gyms is named the Snake Pit.

School spirit is high at Cooper. We have an excellent orchestra, wonderful, chorus, awsome jazz band and great symphonic band which took 1st division rating at the IL Grade School Music Assn. Organization contest this year. Our 7th grade girls basketball team is number one, our wrestlers are state wrestlers and conference champions. We have state runners for cross country and we have the largest track team. Our tech lab was named best in the state last year.

We have a great Spanish program and offer trimesters of German as an encore choice this year. Our entire school reads together each Friday morning for 20 minutes. Our team sent one student to the regional science fair this year, along with two 7th graders from the other team, and three eighth graders. The entire 7th grade participates in a project called the Virtual Trade Mission, where we choose a country and a product to export to that country, which culminates in an evening when we all showcase our projects.

Our home economics classes make cookies to sell. We decorate each other's lockers for birthdays. On Fridays we have spirit days when we come to school dressed a certain way, e.g., plaid day, favorite college day, favorite team day, school colors day, etc.

We have a fish tank with freshwater tropical fish and a terrarium with two bearded dragons in our science classroom. We are studying genetics this trimester. So far we have covered Gregor Mendel's work, have learned about dominant and recessive traits, incomplete dominance, and Punnett squares. We have just finished making models of meiosis and will extract DNA from peas this week. We have taken the Dominant Trait survey and are collecting data from other people. We will compile our data next week and post it.

Sincerely, The 7th Grade Students in Mrs. Hubert's class
