Dear Genetics Traits Participants

We are Year 7 students from Camberwell High School, which is in Cantebury. Cantebury is a suburb of Melbourne and Melbourne is the capital of Victoria, situated at the head of Port Phillip Bay. Its latitude is37.49S and the longitude is 144.58E. Melbourne has warm summers and mild winters but the weather can be very unpredictable. People say we can have four seasons in one day. The average summer temperature is 26 degrees celsius but we often have 40 degrees celsius days. The average winter temperature is 10 degrees celsius and melbournes average rainfall is 660mm, however we often have have dry years such as this year! Melbourne is the second largest city in Australia with a population of about 4 million people. It is a multicultural city, with many people from many countries settling here. As a result there are many different restaurants to eat in, from Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai to Greek, Italian, Spanish and French. People in Melbourne consider we are the "sports capital" of Australia because we host many international events such as the Australian Open(tennis), the Grand Prix(Formula 1), the Melbourne Cup(horse racing), and the AFL grand final(Australian Rules Football). As well as this people enjoy basketball, rugby, soccer, netball, cricket and golf. Camberwell High School is a state government school for students in years 7(12 years old) to year 12. It has about 1050 students with about 200 in Year7. There are 25 students in each class. We start the day at 9:00 am and finish at 3:15 pm. We have 6 periods each day and 2 periods each week of sport where we can choose from a wide range of sports. We can also learn a musical instrument and play in a school band if we choose. Melbourne is a wonderful city surrounded by many beautiful beaches and natural forest areas. We hope that one day you can visit our part of the world "Downunder".
