November 13, 1998... Dear Mr. Holzman, Hi! We are a 9th grade Introduction to Conceptual Physics class in an all-girls Catholic high school in Bayonne, New Jersey, USA. As part of our unit on Basic Science Skills, learning about DATA ANALYSIS, we have chosen to participate in the Genetics Project. Having conducted our own surveys of 25 people each, we then have collated our data and are submitting it today to the Genetics Web site at Stevens Tech. We will be most interested to see if our data matches the data collected from other places; hopefully there will be some other places that are far away from Bayonne! Two things that we should mention in regards to the people who participated in our survey. One is that we tried to make a special point of making sure that no two of the people that individual students surveyed were blood related to each other. The other is that the majority of people that we surveyed were other students in the school, so that they were mainly young women. There were a few things that surprised us when we conducted our surveys!! One was that so few people had the white forelock, since that was supposed to be a dominant trait. We are hypothesizing that maybe here in the Bayonne area, there are not that many people with it, but in the whole world maybe there are many more. This is why we are hoping to see survey results from many places that are far away from Bayonne! We were also surprised to see that even as many as 4 people out of 273 were color blind. And one of them was a woman! We thought that a color-blind woman was VERY rare!
