Proston State School, Queensland, Australia

Here we are on a school excursion to our state capital. We are hugging a statue of football hero Wally Lewis.

Proston State School has 173 students from Pre-school to year 10.  Our school likes to hold sporting events with other P-10 schools.  We like to celebrate special occasions (for example, ANZAC day) with the community.  Our school uniform is a bottle green polo shirt with gold trim and bottle green skirts or shorts. The year 10 science class consists of 12 girls and 1 boy aged 15 – 16 years.  Proston was settled in 1850 and the population is approximately 500 people.  Proston has a  hotel, convenience store, café, bakery, news agent, post office, library, mechanic, swimming pool and a police, ambulance and Fire Brigade services. We also have tennis, golf and bowling clubs.  Smithfield Feedlot is the main industry around this area. This is a beef cattle feedlot. Other industries around this area are, general farming of cattle and pigs, cropping and dubosia (a bush from which drugs are extracted for the pharmaceutical industry.) Lake Boondooma is 20km from town and supplies water to nearby Tarong Power station.  It attracts a lot of tourists for fishing, boating and waterskiing.

Some of the activities we like to participate in are:

  • Skate boarding
  • Bike riding
  • Swimming in the local pool

Wakefield Middle School Raleigh, NC USA

Hey People,
The name of our school is Wakefield Middle School. We are in seventh grade. Our school's address is 2300 Wakefield Pines Drive, Raleigh, NC. USA. Our latitude is 35.4619 N and our longitude is 78.3820 W.
Wakefield Middle School opened in the 2000-2001 school year, along with Wakefield Elementary and Wakefield High School. The closest neighborhoods to the school are in Wakefield Plantation. It started to be built in 2000. Houses are still being built today. It has neighborhoods with houses from multimillion dollar houses to apartments and townhomes.

Our school has cheerleading, boys and girls' soccer, boys and girls' basketball, girls' volleyball, girls' softball, boys' American football, and boys' and girls' track. Some of our clubs are Beta Club, Step Team, Odyssey of the Mind, Art Club, FCA, Yearbook, Newspaper, and Newbery Book Club. Our mascot is the wolf. Our school colors are blue and silver. We have about 1200 students in our school.

There are 10 "teams" in the school. The sixth grade teams are the Silver Wolves, Mighty Wolves, Pack Team, and Alpha Wolves. The seventh grade teams are Dream Team, Royal Wolves, and Timber Wolves. The eighth grade teams are the Red Wolves, Patriotic Wolves, and Dire Wolves. We have 6 periods in one day. Four of those classes are core classes. The core classes are social studies, science, math, and language arts. We have two electives. The two electives include P.E. and another class or your choice.

Our capital city is Raleigh. For everday activities, there is not much to do. The most popular thing to do in the Raleigh area is to go to the State Fair. it comes for about two weeks in October. We have some prestigious colleges and universities in the area. Some of them include Duke, NC State, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and East Carolina University.

Our sixth period science class is very unique. Each one of us has our own individuality. We are also a very energetic class, wanting to have fun while interacting with science. In our class there are a lot of cliques, just like every other school and class. There are 20 girls and 15 boys in Mrs. LaFayette's sixth period class. Theat equals up to 35 children in our class.

Sincerely,
Mrs. LaFayette's Sixth Period Science Class

St. Marys Middle School

Hey!! What’s up?? Greetings from Alyssa and Jessica! We’re from St. Marys, Georgia, and go to St. Marys Middle School in Camden County. We are in the 7th grade. Our mascot is the bobcat, and our colors are red, white, and blue. Jessica and I have both been in gifted classes since the 2nd grade. Her favorite subject is Math, mine is Language Arts. We help each other out because math is my least favorite subject and vice versa.
We have a bunch of sports here at SMMS including: baseball, softball, wrestling, girl’s basketball, boy’s basketball, girl’s soccer, boy’s soccer, football, tennis, cheerleading, and one of our friends is trying to get a volleyball team going. Not to mention our high school football team, the Camden County Wildcats. If you live in Georgia you may have heard of them. They won the 5A division state championship in 2003, and were the 9th in the nation. Our high school cheerleaders also won national championship competition in 2004.
Back to us, Jessica is the cheerleader and I am trying out for softball. A cheerleading competition is near for Jessica, and tryouts are near for me. We enjoy these sports because this is who we are. Some other things we enjoy to do is go over to each others houses and hang out in the pool, listen to music, play games, and dance. We enjoy riding our bikes downtown to go see the waterfront and our favorite candy shop, Market on the Square.
St. Marys Middle School used to be the high school, and finally, we are getting a new school built. It will have no hall lockers and a locker room big enough for every person in the school to have their gym locker. Only the technology and any of the teacher’s things are coming over. They will give us a set of books for home and a class set for school. We are scheduled to move into the new school over Christmas holidays.
Our city is prospering very quickly, but is still a small town. It is also a great place to visit. Cumberland Island has attracted a lot of visitors also.
We are doing this research as a science fair project. Mrs. Dougherty is our life science teacher. We are surveying our entire seventh grade team for this project.
