Make a Prediction

In order to know whether the hypothesis is right or wrong, a scientist needs to test the hypothesis by doing an experiment. The scientist will make a prediction of the outcome of the experiment to see if the hypothesis is correct or needs to be changed. In the experiment, the scientist will collect data and then analyze the data to see if the hypothesis was correct. If the hypothesis was not correct, they develop a new hypothesis and test it again. Sometimes a scientist will think his or her hypothesis is correct and then after a while new information will come along and their hypothesis will no longer be correct. This is all part of studying science!
 
Make a Prediction
This project will serve as the "experiment" to test your hypothesis. In order to test your hypothesis, make a prediction about what you will find when you look at the data, assuming your hypothesis to be true.

Below are the sample hypotheses given in Lesson 2 along with possible predictions: 

Hypothesis: People in drier climates use more water than people in rainier climates.
Prediction: People in Phoenix, Arizona will use more water than people in Seattle, Washington.

Hypothesis: Americans use more water than Europeans.
Prediction: The average amount of water used by all American classes will be greater than the average amount of water used by all European classes.

Hypothesis: Water usage depends on geographical location.
Prediction: People who live above the equator will use more water than people who live below the equator.

Hypothesis: People who live near oceans use less water than people who do not.
Prediction: People in New Jersey will use less water than people in Kansas.
