Tara Elementary School
Bradenton, Florida
Mrs. Novak's and Ms. Randall's fourth grade classes took water from a pond in Bradenton, Florida and observed and identified macro-organisms which will be compared with observation results of students from around the world. Our class hypothesis is: We do not believe we will find the same organisms around the world. Our classes observed the following:
10 waterfleas
7 midge larva,
5 cyclops
2 water mites
3 blood worms
1 mayfly nymph
1 bristle worm
1 dragonfly nymph
3 scud
3 water spiders
1 snail
1 leech
2 mosquito larva
1 rotifer
3 tadpoles, and eggs
We
also observed a small, round, red organism with legs that kept rolling
into a ball. In addition, we found something that looked like algae,
but it had legs that made grabbing motions, and it was eating a blood worm.
Some of us still agree with our class hypothesis, but some now believe we
may have found some of the same macro organisms as classes around the
world. Our teams worked well together and would recommend this project to
other classes.
