We collected water from the pond in front of our school.  This year, our teacher waded out into the water (it was cold!) to collect a water sample to see if the deeper water had more "buddies" than the shallow water we've used in the past.  We were surprised to find that there weren't very many "buddies" in the deep water at all, just a two or three seed shrimp.

So, we collected a new water sample from closer to shore.  We gave each person in our class a small container of water from the bucket to examine, and this is what we found:

·        damselfly nymph (1)

·        daphnia/water flea (39)

·        dragonfly nymph (1)

·        mayfly nymph (2)

·        snail (1)

·        copepod/cyclops (15)

·        ostracod/seed shrimp (15)

·        planaria/flatworm (1)

Even after we had taken out our smaller samples of water, it looked like there were still dozens of daphnia and several cyclops left in the bucket, but we did not have time to count them.  The cyclops were very hard to catch because they swim so fast!
