Indian Mills Elementary School, Shamong New Jersey

Introduction

We are fourth graders at Indian Mills Elementary School, Shamong New Jersey in Ms. Clementi’s class. We decided to do the Bucket Buddies experiment. All of us had a great learning experience.

Hypothesis

We predicted we would find; the Rams Horn snail; the Mayfly Nymph; the leech; the Cyclops; the Water Spider; and The Chironomid Larva. These macroinvertebrates were chosen separately by each of us.

 Findings

We had a clear water sample that came from the top of a pond where the depth was about three feet and a murky water sample where the water was about 8 inches deep. Our water sample was taken on May, 2nd a clear and sunny day.

Conclusion

We found 4/6 of the macroinvertebrates that were chosen by our class. In conclusion our experience doing Bucket Buddies has taught us a lot and we have helped all of those scientists and their studies. We were surprised at how many macroinvertebrates we were able to see with just a hand lens.
