Comparing Bucket Buddies’ Findings
By Cameron
The 6/7 class were collecting macro invertebrates to compare our data with other schools from different countries. My hypothesis was that our data would be different because we are in a different part of the world. The things we caught were:
Water scorpion 1|
Caddis fly larva 2
Damsel fly nymphs 4
Dragon fly nymphs 1
Fresh water shrimp 6
Leech 1
Seed shrimp 1
Yabby 1
Water boatman 1
Water spider 5
Some macro invertebrates were the same as what we found, others were not. This was different from my hypothesis.
Comparing
Bucket Buddies’ Findings
By Rachael
The Year 6/7 class did Waterwatch so as to compare our
macro invertebrates’ findings with other schools’ results. My hypothesis was
that our data would be the same as other schools, but a smaller amount of
macroinvertebrates.
We found:
Water scorpion 1
Caddis fly larva 2
Dragon fly nymph 1
Damselfly nymph 4
Fresh water shrimp 6
Seed shrimp 1
Water boatman 1
Water spider 5
Leech 1
Yabby 1
It appears there was range of macroinvertebrates
found and also quantities varied. Some macroinvertebrates were the same as what
we found but other was not. For my hypothesis, I found it to be correct.
Final Report
The macro invertebrates I found in my pond were similar to other parts of the US
and different countries. My first hypothesis was that there would be different
macro invertebrate organisms in different places in the world. This hypothesis
was not proven to be true, because the other samples had similar species. My
second hypothesis was that in warmer climates there will be different macro
invertebrate organisms than in the cooler climates. This hypothesis was not
proven, because the samples from different were all similar. A conclusion
I drew was, that macro invertebrates can survive in many different climates and
that similar species of macro invertebrates live in all places that samples were
collected.
