Woodrow Wilson School, New Brunswick, New Jersey
Third graders in Mrs. Neal's class observed water from a pond near the
Sourland Mountains Preserve. The preserve is located in Somerset County, New
Jersey. She got water and sediment samples from the edge, 1 meter from
the edge, and 3 meters from the edge.
Students learned that sediment is matter that settles at the bottom of liquid.
The temperature was about 65 F.
Question: Are all organisms the same in all pond water samples?
Hypothesis: The organisms may be different in pond water samples because of
location, conditions (dirty or polluted) and climate.
We went to Murphy Park, a park that borders Woodrow Wilson School's playgound,
to observe the pond samples. Listed below is what we found in our pond
samples.
Pond Edge Water - The water was clear.
