Woodrow Wilson School, New Brunswick, New Jersey

Third graders in Mrs. Neal's class observed water from a pond near the Sourland Mountains Preserve. The preserve is located in Somerset County, New Jersey.  She got water and sediment samples from the edge, 1 meter from the edge, and 3 meters from the  edge. Students learned that sediment is matter that settles at the bottom of liquid. The temperature was about 65 F.


Question:  Are all organisms the same in all pond water samples?
Hypothesis:  The organisms may be different in pond water samples because of location, conditions (dirty or polluted) and climate. 
 
We went to Murphy Park, a park that borders Woodrow Wilson School's playgound, to observe the pond samples.  Listed below is what we found in our pond samples.
 
Pond Edge Water - The water was clear.

There were many bubbles in the bucket.  The water was clear.
No organisms were found.
