On March 30, 2006 Mrs. Nocera’s first grade class visited a vernal pool located on our school grounds.  We found many of the macro invertebrates that were listed on the identification guide such as:

     Caddisfly Nymph

     Damselfly Nymph

     Bristle Worm

     Beetle

     Tadpole

The children were asked to scoop a sample and identify any organisms they could see.  Later they drew a picture of it and classified where it was found (muddy bottom, open water, surface skin) in our small wetland (named Cattail Corner).  They made educated guesses as to why they think that organism lives in that part of the wetland.
