Bucket buddies from Poland

Welcome to our Bucket Buddies site.  We loved collecting the samples for this activity and are anxious to share our information with you.  We hope you had as much fun as we did.

First we would like to tell you a little bit about 5th Grade Wojcik.

We form a class of 17 students at the American School of Warsaw in Konstancin-Jeziorna , Poland.  We come from Great Britain, Poland, Israel, the Netherlands, Korea, Finland, Ireland, Sweden, the United States, Canada, Belgium, and Japan.  Visiting a pond was an original experience for many of us.

Our pond is located behind our school in the middle of farmers’ fields. It is a very big pond and surrounded by trees and bushes.  There are small islands in the middle of it. It took us about half an hour to walk around the pond.  A small peninsula is located on one side and this is where we went to collect our samples.  The water is covered with green scum and many tiny lily pads.  It doesn’t smell very good and we saw lots of garbage around it so we think the water is quite dirty or polluted.  But we saw families of swans and ducks so we know there is much life in and on the pond.

Hypothesis:  We do not think that the macroinvertebrates found in pond water are the same all over the world because of different climates and different pond conditions. Organisms that like warm water like our pond could not survive in a cold climate near the Arctic.

These are the macroinvertebrates that we collected.
