Working with the Discussion Area

Entering the Forum (http://www.ciese.org/discussionarea/)

1) When you enter the discussion board site, you should see an interface that looks like this:

Each separate listing in boldface, is what we will call a "Forum". Depending upon which project you entered, there may be several different forums in which you will post specific information.

i.e. Only letters of introduction go in the "Letter of Introduction" area.

Click on the bold faced title of the forum to enter.

Posting a Message
  1. Once you click on one of the "forums" you will see a list of titles for all the messages that have been posted to that forum so far.

  2. To post your own message, click on the "post" button.

  3. The next screen provides an area for you to type your message. (Notice that you can add formatting as well as smiley faces to accent your post if you would like.) When you are done, you may preview your post or just hit the "submit" button to finish.

Replying to a Message
  1. The method for replying a message is similar to posting a new message.

  2. Click on the forum you wish to enter. Find the message that you would like to respond to, and click on it. (You may also respond to another person's response.) The next screen will show you the person's message. Click on the "reply" button to create a reply post, or click the "quote" button, which will copy the post you are replying to and put it into your reply.

  3. At this point, refer to step 3 for posting a message.
