The following photos are from the Second
Ciber@prendiz Teacher Education Workshop held in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Ten middle school science and math teachers from Dr. César Borja Lavayen school and
Colegio Politécnico (see
schools & teachers) participated in the four day workshop and
learned how to use and integrate technology, specifically two
Internet-based interdisciplinary classroom projects, into their
curriculum in innovative ways that enhance student learning and support
higher levels of achievement.
During the first two days, the participating
teachers completed all of the activities and conducted a rapid water
analysis of an artificial lake at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del
Litoral campus as part of ¡H2O Viva! (see
student projects), a collaborative
project where students analyze the water quality of a river, stream,
lake, or pond based on physical characteristics and chemical substances
and compare their results with other fresh water sources around the
world. During the latter two days, the teachers who participated in the
first Ciberaprendiz workshop led the sessions for Terremundo (see
student projects), a Real-Time data
project where students use Real-Time earthquake and volcano data from
the Internet to explore the relationship between earthquakes, plate
tectonics, and volcanoes.
